Have you seen our brand new resident elephant “Donnyphant” yet? You can find him just outside Elephant & Castle!
As we say goodbye to the two elephants we were kindly allowed to borrow from the Children's Hospital Charity, we thought what better way to honour our continuing partnership then by having our very own elephant created.
This task was handed to the Key Stage 1 children at Plover School as part of their learning expedition ‘Would you staycation in Doncaster?’.
The children were asked to research what a seaside location had to offer for a day trip, before comparing and contrasting this with what Doncaster has to offer.
They completed field studies to nine different tourist destinations in Doncaster, enabling them to fully understand what fun activities, sights and places our town has to offer. These studies promoted some beautiful work from the children in the form of artwork, photography and postcards.
The children planned the colour scheme of the elephant to reflect the colours of Plover School. They used the word ‘Doncaster’ to form word art for each location visited, thinking carefully about creating a colour scheme to link the wording to each location.
Along with decoupaging this elephant the children created an awesome tourist information film which you can access by scanning the QR code on the elephant's ear.
