Frenchgate Shopping Centre Doncaster has helped to launch a charity appeal with a stylish difference.

The Shopping Centre has kick-started a campaign in aid of the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust and is aiming to collect hundreds of scarves for its mile of scarves campaign.

As part of the campaign shoppers are being asked to donate a scarf as well as make a monetary donation to the charity in honour of a loved one whose life has been touched by cancer.

Frenchgate are hoping to collect enough scarves that will create a mile of scarves with all being displayed within the shopping centre.

Once the charity campaign is completed all the scarves will be sold with all funds raised being donated to the charity.

A number of celebrities have been asked to donate scarves and these will be auctioned off for the charity in spring 2016. Celebrity Juice and Through the Keyhole presenter Keith Lemon has made the first donation of a signed scarf.

In addition Doncaster college fashion students will be turning some of the scarves into one of kind outfits and these will also be available to bid for in the auction.

Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust is Doncaster's oldest cancer charity. The charity helps to fund equipment and facilities to prevent, detect, treat and cure cancer.

Since its formation in 1972 The Trust has donated over 80 pieces of front line cancer equipment to Doncaster Hospitals alongside millions of pounds worth of facilities and medical expertise and built, equipped and upgraded St John’s Hospice.

Jeannette Fish, founder of Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust, commented: “We are delighted to be launching our mile of scarves appeal in partnership with Frenchgate. The centre has been a long standing supporter of our charity and this appeal is perfect for them to be involved. The people of Doncaster have always supported us and I am sure they will get behind us again for this campaign.

Karen Staniforth explained: “We have been supporting Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust for a number of years and this time wanted to do something different and very visual.

“Most people have at least one scarf in their wardrobes, whether it is a fashion or football scarf and we really hope that the people get behind our campaign and donate their scarves to this wonderful cause.”

Scarves can be donated at the Customer Services desk within Frenchgate as well as the Danum Hotel and Tom Wood Florists.
