B-Looming great - Frenchgate is a record-breaker!
A South Yorkshire shopping centre has become an official Guinness World Record holder after taking the title for the ‘longest chain of Loom Band bracelets’.
More than 500 people took part in the challenge at Frenchgate Shopping Centre, Doncaster throughout half term week in Loom Band Workshops. Others got involved by donating their spare Loom Bands to the centre in its bid to be a record-breaker.
The week-long efforts culminated in a special event on Sunday November 2 attended by an Official Guinness World Records Adjudicator. The representative observed the activity and checked and verified the record-breaking total of 5038 loom band bracelets.
Joined up, the giant bracelet measured more than 450 metres – about the length of 40 double decker buses - and was laid out in the car park of the shopping centre.
Heidi Barlow, marketing manager at the centre, said: “We’re so pleased with the response to our World Record attempt. People from across South Yorkshire really got involved and it was so much fun.
“Two days before the final event we had made it to 4335 loom bracelets so we’d already achieved the minimum to get near the record - but our shoppers just kept on donating and joining in and we smashed the target with more than 5000.
“We’ll be displaying our certificate with pride!”
