Making Tracks returns to Frenchgate for 2018 with Making Tracks – The Next Stop, offering the public a chance to come face to face with some of the rarest artefacts and memorabilia from Doncaster’s rich rail history and heritage.
Moving on from 2017, which focused on the past, present and future of Doncaster rail, 2018 see the focus shift towards the people behind the engineering marvels of the era. Expect to historic work from famous names such as Sir Nigel Gresley – the railway engineer behind the globally renowned Mallard and Flying Scotsman.
Once again, a number of key pieces from the famed Doncaster Grammar School collection will be on display. This collection started in 1930 and over 80 years has grown to phenomenal levels as members collected nameplates, signs, lamps, signal posts and everything in-between.
Our team of rail historians and aficionados aim to bring these artefacts to life by telling the interesting and intriguing stories behind each piece covering everything from train, trolley and tunnels.
In addition to the main exhibition a number of supporting events will be periodically adding to the exhibition throughout the month via pop up events, public talks, information desks and pop up shops. For more information regarding these please visit our Events page.
